Crochet Queens Artist Statement -

Crochet Fashions by Alex.

Creating slow fashion with a tagline. Crochet Queens is a space that uniquely reflects my aesthetic and style whilst representing crochet in a space it may not have lived before, whilst representing styles and motifs from a world long past.

My name is Alex. I am a maker and visual artist living in Ballarat on Wadawarrung country. I’m a mother of three beautiful children and my partner and I strive to raise them to be compassionate, creative crusaders.
I’ve been crocheting since I was 10 years old and I love the versatility of this medium.

The world these days is pretty far from the old ways. From the slow and contemplative. Crochet for me is a link back to my grandparents, aunties and guardians.

I love to create and make. It’s a part of who I am. Being a full-time parent and keeping up with a growing family is a huge task, let alone having capacity to make.
